Materials
- Worsted weight yarn (approximately 900 yards) in dark green
- US size 8 (5 mm) knitting needles
- US size 6 (4 mm) knitting needles for the ribbing
- Stitch markers
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
- Measuring tape
- Scissors
Gauge
15 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch on larger needles.
Abbreviations
- CO: Cast On
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- RS: Right Side
- WS: Wrong Side
- K2tog: Knit two stitches together
- P2tog: Purl two stitches together
- ST: Stitch
- Repeat: Rep
Instructions
Body
- Using the size 8 needles, CO 80 stitches.
- Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 2 inches (approximately 10 rows).
- Switch to larger needles. Start the body in stockinette stitch (K on RS, P on WS) until the piece measures 16 inches from the cast-on edge.
Cable Design
- Begin the cable design:
- On the next RS row, K4, then place the next 4 stitches on a cable needle and hold in the back. K4, then K the stitches from the cable needle.
- P to the end of the row.
- Repeat this cable pattern every 10 rows for a total of 6 times before moving to the arms.
Dividing for Sleeves
- Once the body measures 16 inches long: K20, place the next 20 stitches on a stitch holder, K40 (this will be the back), place the next 20 stitches on a stitch holder, K20 for the front.
Sleeves
- Using size 6 needles, CO 40 stitches for one sleeve.
- Work in K2, P2 ribbing for 2 inches.
- Switch to size 8 needles and knit in stockinette stitch until the sleeve measures 18 inches from the cast-on edge.
- Begin decreasing: On the next row, K2tog at the beginning and end of the row.
- Repeat the decrease every 8th row 4 times.
- Once you have 24 stitches left, K2, P2 ribbing for 2 inches and bind off loosely.
Finishing
- Repeat the sleeve instructions for the second sleeve.
- Now, with the body, sew the sleeves to the armholes matching stitches. Secure with a tapestry needle.
- Weave in all ends and block lightly if desired.
