Materials
- Worsted weight cotton yarn in the following colors: light green (for the background), red (for strawberries), and green (for leaves).
- Size 7 (4.5 mm) knitting needles
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
Gauge
20 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stocking stitch
Abbreviations
- CO: Cast On
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- tbl: Through Back Loop
- St(s): Stitch(es)
- WS: Wrong Side
- RS: Right Side
- rnd(s): Round(s)
Instructions
- With light green yarn, CO 40 stitches onto your needles.
- Rows 1-6: Knit every row (this forms a garter stitch border).
- Change to strawberry motif pattern.
- Row 7 (RS): K10, *P2, K8* repeat from * to * four times, P2, K8 (total 40 stitches).
- Row 8 (WS): K all (total 40 stitches).
- Continue with the following pattern for the strawberry motif until you reach Row 30:
- Row 9: *K2, P2, K2, P2, K2, P2, K2, P2, K2* (total 40 stitches)
- Row 10: K all (total 40 stitches)
- Row 11: K8, P2, K5 (for leaves), P2, K5, P2, K8 (repeat for a total of 5 strawberries).
- Row 12: K all (total 40 stitches).
- Continue this pattern until you have created 5 strawberry motifs with leaves.
- Row 31-36: Knit every row (garter stitch) to complete the dishcloth.
- BO all stitches; cut yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving in.
Finishing
Use the yarn needle to weave in any ends. Block the dishcloth lightly if desired. Your Strawberry Motif Dishcloth is now ready for use!
