Strawberry Motif Dishcloth

Materials

• Worsted weight cotton yarn in the following colors: light green (for the background), red (for strawberries), and green (for leaves).
• Size 7 (4.5 mm) knitting needles
• Yarn needle for weaving in ends
• Scissors

Gauge

20 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches (10 cm) in stocking stitch

Abbreviations

• CO: Cast On
• K: Knit
• P: Purl
• tbl: Through Back Loop
• St(s): Stitch(es)
• WS: Wrong Side
• RS: Right Side
• rnd(s): Round(s)

Instructions

1. With light green yarn, CO 40 stitches onto your needles.
2. Rows 1-6: Knit every row (this forms a garter stitch border).
3. Change to strawberry motif pattern.
   • Row 7 (RS): K10, *P2, K8* repeat from * to * four times, P2, K8 (total 40 stitches).
   • Row 8 (WS): K all (total 40 stitches).
4. Continue with the following pattern for the strawberry motif until you reach Row 30:
• Row 9: *K2, P2, K2, P2, K2, P2, K2, P2, K2* (total 40 stitches)
• Row 10: K all (total 40 stitches)
• Row 11: K8, P2, K5 (for leaves), P2, K5, P2, K8 (repeat for a total of 5 strawberries).
• Row 12: K all (total 40 stitches).
• Continue this pattern until you have created 5 strawberry motifs with leaves.
5. Row 31-36: Knit every row (garter stitch) to complete the dishcloth.
6. BO all stitches; cut yarn, leaving a long tail for weaving in.

Finishing

Use the yarn needle to weave in any ends. Block the dishcloth lightly if desired. Your Strawberry Motif Dishcloth is now ready for use!
