Stars and Stripes Celebration Garland

Materials List

  • Worsted weight yarn in Red, White, and Blue (approx. 150 yards each)
  • Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle
  • Optional: pom-poms for decoration

Gauge

4 stitches and 4 rows = 1 inch in single crochet.

Abbreviations

  • ch = chain
  • sc = single crochet
  • dc = double crochet
  • sl st = slip stitch
  • tr = triple crochet
  • sp = space

Instructions

Pennant (Make 6)

  1. With Red yarn, ch 25.
  2. Row 1: Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across (24 sc).
  3. Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc across. Repeat Row 2 for 4 more rows.
  4. Fasten off, leaving a long tail for sewing.
  5. Repeat with White yarn for 2 pennants.
  6. With Blue yarn, ch 25.
  7. Row 1: (Same as above) Sc 10, dc 4, sc 10 (24 total stitches).
  8. Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Sc across. Repeat Row 2 for 5 rows. For the last row, add 5 tr evenly spaced to create star motifs.
  9. Fasten off, leaving a long tail.

Assembling the Garland

  1. Cut a length of White yarn, about 5 feet long for the hanging string.
  2. Using the tapestry needle, thread the yarn through the top of each pennant, alternating colors (Red, White, Blue, Red, White, Blue).
  3. Space the pennants evenly and secure with a knot at both ends to secure them in place.
  4. Optional: Attach small pom-poms to the top corners of each pennant for added flair!
