Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn in various colors (pink, red, cream, gray) - approximately 50g in each color
  • G (4.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Fiberfill stuffing
  • Yarn needle

Gauge

16 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in single crochet.

Abbreviations

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • inc - increase (2 sc in the same stitch)
  • dec - decrease (single crochet two stitches together)
  • sl st - slip stitch

Instructions

  1. Create the Base:

    With your chosen color, make a magic circle. Chain 1 to secure.

  2. Round 1:

    Work 6 sc into the magic circle. Pull the circle tight to close. (6 sc)

  3. Round 2:

    Increase in each stitch: (inc) 6 times. (12 sc)

  4. Round 3:

    Sc in the next stitch, (inc in the next stitch) repeat around. (18 sc)

  5. Round 4:

    Sc in the next 2 stitches, (inc) repeat around. (24 sc)

  6. Rounds 5-6:

    Sc around. (24 sc per round)

  7. Beginning the Heart Shape:

    For Round 7: Sc in the first 12 stitches, (2 sc in next stitch) 6 times. Sc in the remaining stitches to finish the round. (30 sc)

  8. Round 8:

    Sc in each stitch for this entire round. (30 sc)

  9. Shaping the Top:

    Round 9: (sc in the next 10 stitches, dec) repeat around. (24 sc)

  10. Round 10:

    sc in the next 9 stitches, (dec) repeat around. (20 sc)

  11. Round 11:

    sc in the next 8 stitches, (dec) repeat around. (16 sc)

  12. Finishing Off:

    Stuff the heart with fiberfill until firm.

  13. Round 12:

    (sc in the next 7 stitches, dec) repeat around. (12 sc)

  14. Round 13:

    (sc in the next 6 stitches, dec) repeat around. (8 sc)

  15. Round 14:

    decrease until closed. Fasten off and weave in ends.
