Crochet Granny Square Blanket Pattern

Materials Needed:

Instructions:

Creating Granny Squares

Each granny square will be made separately, and then they will be joined to create the blanket.

Square Pattern (Make 24 total)

1. Start by making a magic circle.
2. CH 3 (counts as first DC).
3. Into the magic circle, make 2 DC, CH 2 (this forms the first corner).
4. Make 3 DC, CH 2 for the next corner 3 times. You should have 4 corners and 12 DC in total.
5. Pull the tail of the magic circle to close it tight.
6. SL ST into the top of the initial CH 3 to close your round.

Round 2

1. Change to your next color (mustard). SL ST into a CH 2 SP.
2. CH 3 (counts as first DC) and make 2 DC, CH 2, 3 DC in the same CH 2 SP (this creates the first corner).
3. In the next SP (between the groups), make 3 DC. Repeat this around the square for a total of 4 corners and 12 DC in between.
4. Join with SL ST to the top of the CH 3.

Round 3

1. Change to your next color (light brown). SL ST to the CH 2 SP.
2. CH 3 (counts as first DC) and make 2 DC, CH 2, 3 DC in the same CH 2 SP (first corner).
3. In each SP between the groups, make 3 DC. Repeat for all corners making sure you have 4 corners and 12 DC in between.
4. Join with SL ST to the top of the CH 3 to finish your square.

Joining Squares

Once all granny squares are complete, you will join them together.

1. Lay out your squares in a 4x6 arrangement or any preferred configuration.
2. Using the whip stitch or slip stitch, join squares together. Place two squares with wrong sides facing each other and join through the back loops only.

Finishing the Blanket

1. Once all squares are joined, create a border around the entire blanket.
2. Attach cream yarn with a SL ST in any corner, CH 1, SC in the same space, SC around the edge, placing 3 SC in each corner.
3. In the last round, use a scalloped edge by alternating 5 DC in the same stitch and skipping one stitch.
