Colorful Granny Square Blanket Square

Materials

• Worsted weight cotton yarn in the following colors:
  • Light Blue
  • Teal
  • Dark Blue
  • Pink
  • Orange
  • Yellow
• Size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge

Gauge is not critical for this project, but the sample square measures 6 inches by 6 inches. For consistent square size, ensure your stitches are even.

Abbreviations

• ch = chain
• dc = double crochet
• sl st = slip stitch
• sp = space
• st = stitch
• tr = treble crochet

Instructions

Round 1

1. Start with a slip knot.
2. Chain 4 and join to form a ring (this serves as the center).
3. Chain 3 (counts as your first dc), then make 2 dc into the ring.
4. Chain 2 to form the first corner.
5. Make 3 dc in the ring.
6. Chain 2 for the second corner.
7. Repeat steps 4-6 two more times. You should have 4 groups of 3 dc with 2 chain spaces in between.
8. Join with a sl st to the top of the first ch 3 from Round 1.

Round 2

1. Change to your next color.
2. Slip stitch to the first chain 2 space.
3. Chain 3 (this counts as your first dc).
4. Make 2 dc in the same space.
5. Chain 2 for the corner, then make 3 dc in the same space.
6. In the next chain 2 space, make 3 dc.
7. Make 3 dc in the next chain 2 space and then chain 2.
8. Make 3 dc in the same space.
9. Repeat these steps until you reach the last chain space, making sure to finish with 3 dc and chain 2 for the last corner.
10. Join with a sl st to the top of the first ch 3 from Round 2.

Round 3

1. Change to your next color.
2. Slip stitch to the chain 2 space.
3. Chain 3 (counts as first dc) and make 2 dc in this space.
4. For each chain 2 space, make 3 dc.
5. In each corner space, make 3 dc + chain 2 + 3 dc.
6. Continue around the square until all sides are complete.
7. Join with a sl st to the top of the first ch 3 from Round 3.

Finishing

1. Fasten off your yarns by cutting them and pulling the ends through.
2. Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle neatly into the back of your square.
