Chunky Ribbed Crochet Beanie Pattern

Introduction

Create a cozy and stylish beanie with this chunky ribbed crochet pattern. Perfect for keeping warm, this beanie features bold vertical ribs and a snug fit. Whether you're a beginner or looking to refine your crochet skills, this pattern is designed to guide you through each step with ease.

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Super bulky yarn in two shades of pink
  • Hook: 9mm crochet hook
  • Gauge: 4 stitches and 4 rows = 4 inches in single crochet

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Start with a Magic Ring:

To create a magic ring, hold the yarn in your hand, wrap it around your fingers to form a loop, and pull the working yarn through the loop. This will create a ring to work into.

Crochet 8 single crochets (sc) into the magic ring. To do this, insert your hook into the ring, yarn over, pull through, yarn over again, and pull through both loops on your hook. Repeat until you have 8 sc. Join the last stitch with a slip stitch (sl st) to the first sc to close the round.

  2. Increase the Stitches:

Chain 1 (this does not count as a stitch). Work 2 single crochets in each stitch around. This means you will place 2 sc in each of the 8 stitches from the previous round, giving you a total of 16 stitches. Join with a sl st to the first sc.

  3. Continue Increasing:

Chain 1. Now, you will alternate between 1 single crochet and 2 single crochets in the next stitch. This means you will do the following: *1 sc in the next stitch, 2 sc in the next stitch* and repeat this pattern around. You should end up with 24 stitches. Join with a sl st.

  4. Final Increases:

Continue this pattern of increasing until you have a total of 48 stitches. To do this, you can follow the pattern of adding one more single crochet before the increase in each round until you reach 48 stitches.

  5. Begin Ribbing:

Chain 1. Now we will start the ribbing. Work a front post double crochet (fpdc) around the next stitch. To do this, yarn over, insert your hook from the front to the back around the post of the stitch, yarn over again, pull through, yarn over, pull through two loops, yarn over, pull through the last two loops. Then, work a back post double crochet (bpdc) around the next stitch. Repeat this pattern of fpdc and bpdc around the entire round. Join with a sl st.

  6. Continue Ribbing:

Repeat the ribbing pattern (fpdc, bpdc) for 10 more rounds or until the beanie reaches your desired length. Make sure to join each round with a sl st.

  7. Finish the Beanie:

To finish, work a round of single crochet in each stitch around. This will give the beanie a neat edge. After completing this round, bind off by cutting the yarn, leaving a long tail, and pulling it through the last loop on your hook. Weave in any loose ends with a yarn needle to secure your work.

Congratulations! You have successfully created your very own chunky ribbed crochet beanie. Enjoy wearing it or gifting it to someone special!
