Garter and Rib Stitch Baby Blanket

Materials

  • Yarn: Bulky weight yarn in soft pink, approximately 400 yards.
  • Knitting Needles: Size US 10 (6 mm) straight needles.
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.

Gauge

12 stitches and 24 rows = 4 x 4 inches (10 x 10 cm) in garter stitch.

Instructions

Ribbed Edge

  1. Cast on 90 stitches.
  2. Row 1: *K2, p2*, rep from * to * across the row.
  3. Row 2: *P2, k2*, rep from * to * across the row.
  4. Repeat Rows 1 and 2 until ribbed section measures 3 inches from the cast-on edge.

Garter Stitch Body

  1. Continue in garter stitch for the next section. This means knitting every row.
  2. Knit each row until the garter stitch section measures 36 inches from the bottom of the ribbing.

Top Ribbed Edge

  1. Repeat Ribbed Edge pattern for 3 inches at the top of the blanket.
  2. Bind off all stitches loosely in rib pattern.

Finishing

  • Weave in all loose ends using a tapestry needle.
  • Block the blanket to measurements to ensure it lies flat and neat. To block, dampen the blanket and lay it flat to dry, gently shaping it to the desired dimensions.
