Elegant Lace Shawl Pattern

Materials

• Yarn: Approximately 800 yards of DK weight yarn in white.
• Crochet Hook: Size G/6 (4.0 mm) or size needed to obtain gauge.
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
• Scissors.

Gauge

Gauge is not critical for this project, but roughly 4 motifs across the width should measure about 12 inches.

• ch: chain
• sc: single crochet
• dc: double crochet
• sl st: slip stitch
• st(s): stitch(es)
• sp: space

Instructions

Main Body

1. Start by chaining 229 loosely. This will be the length of your shawl.
2. Row 1: Dc in the 6th ch from hook, ch 1, skip 1 ch, *dc in next ch, ch 1, skip 1 ch; repeat from * across, dc in last ch. Turn.
3. Row 2: Ch 5 (counts as dc and ch 2), sk first ch 1 sp, dc in next dc, *ch 1, dc in next ch-1 sp; repeat from * across to last ch, ch 2, dc in 3rd ch of turning chain. Turn.
4. Rows 3-40: Repeat Row 2. You should have a beautiful open lace pattern forming.

Edging

1. Round 1: Ch 1, sc evenly around the entire shawl, making sure to place 3 sc in each corner st to keep the edges flat. Join with sl st to first sc.
2. Round 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), *sk 1 sc, dc in next st; repeat from * around, join with sl st to top of ch-3.
3. Fasten off and weave in all ends with a tapestry needle.

Finishing

Block shawl to measurements, approximately 60 inches wide and 20 inches long, to open up the lace pattern.
