Instructions

Bootie Base

  1. CO 40 stitches in cream yarn, distribute evenly on 4 DPNs (10 stitches per needle).
  2. Join into a round, being careful not to twist the stitches.
  3. Knit 10 rounds in ribbing (K1, P1).

Heel

  1. Switch to stockinette stitch (knit every round).
  2. Continue knitting for 14 rounds until the piece measures approximately 3 inches from the ribbing.

Colorwork Pattern

  1. Change to light grey yarn.
  2. For the next 6 rounds, knit in the following sequence: 2 light grey stitches, 2 white stitches, and 2 dark grey stitches.
  3. After completing the 6 rounds, change back to cream yarn.

Toe Shaping

  1. Continue with cream yarn until the total length measures 4 inches from the ribbing.
  2. Begin decreasing for the toe by knitting two stitches together at the beginning and end of each needle for 4 rounds (reducing to 20 stitches).
  3. Next, knit 2 rounds even.
  4. Continue decreasing in the same manner until 12 stitches remain.

Finishing

  1. Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Use a tapestry needle to thread the tail through the remaining stitches and pull tight to close the toe.
  2. Weave in all loose ends using the tapestry needle.
  3. Make a second bootie following the same steps.
