Crochet Festive Candy Cane Striped Gift Bag Free Pattern

Materials

• Worsted weight yarn in red and white
• Crochet hook size H/8 (5mm)
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors

Stitches Used

• Chain (ch)
• Single Crochet (sc)
• Slip Stitch (sl st)

Instructions

Bag Body

1. With red yarn, ch 41. Turn.
2. Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. (40 sc). Turn.
3. Row 2-72: Switch colors between red and white every 4 rows to create the stripe effect. Work sc in each sc across. (Note: Carry unused color along the edge inside the stitches.)
4. Fold the rectangle in half lengthwise and seam the sides using sl st through both layers.

Top Ruffle

1. Attach red yarn at the top edge of the bag opening.
2. Round 1: Sc evenly around the top edge of the bag, join with a sl st.
3. Round 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each sc around, join with a sl st.
4. Round 4: *Ch 3, skip 1 sc, sc in next sc*, repeat from * to * around, join.

Drawstring

1. With red yarn, ch 100. Fasten off.
2. Weave the chain through the gaps created in Round 4 of the top ruffle.

Peppermint Embellishments (Make 2)

1. With white yarn, make a magic ring.
2. Round 1: Ch 1, 8 sc in ring. Join with sl st, change to red yarn.
3. Round 2: *Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc* around, join. (12 sc)
4. Round 3: *2 sc in next sc, sc in next 2 sc* around. Fasten off.
5. Attach one peppermint embellishment to each end of the drawstring.
