Crochet Cropped Sweater Pattern

Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn (approximately 600 yards) in rich orange-brown
  • Size H (5.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors

Instructions

Step 1: Start the Body

  1. Chain 52 for your foundation row.
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook. Dc across the row (50 dc). Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc). Dc in the next st, then *ch 1, skip 1 st, dc in the next st*. Repeat from * to * until the end of the row. Turn.
  4. Row 3: Ch 3. Dc in the same st, then *ch 1, dc in the next ch 1 space*. Repeat until the end. Turn.
  5. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until the piece measures 17 inches from the foundation chain, or desired length.

Step 2: Create the Puff Sleeves

  1. At the end of your last row, ch 6 to start the sleeve.
  2. Row 1: Dc in the 4th ch from the hook and in the next 2 ch (3 dc total). Turn.
  3. Row 2: Ch 3, dc in the same st, *ch 1, dc in the next dc*. Repeat until the end of the row (3 dc total). Turn.
  4. Row 3: Ch 3, dc in the same st, *ch 1, dc in the next ch 1 space*. Repeat until the end. Turn.
  5. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you achieve a width of 8 inches or your desired puff sleeve size.
  6. Fasten off and repeat for the other sleeve.

Step 3: Join the Sweater

  1. Place the two sleeves on either side of the body piece. Use slip stitches or whip stitches to sew them in place.
  2. To create the knot detail, take the middle of the front piece and twist it gently, securing it with several stitches from the inside.

Step 4: Finishing Touches

  1. Weave in all loose ends with your yarn needle.
  2. Block your finished piece to set the shape and create a professional finish.
