Materials Needed
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in mustard and cream
- Hook: 5.0 mm crochet hook
- Gauge: One granny square measures approximately 4 inches across
Step-by-Step Instructions
Creating the Granny Squares
- Start with a Magic Ring: Using the mustard yarn, create a magic ring. To do this, wrap the yarn around your fingers to form a loop, then pull a loop of yarn through the ring with your hook.
- Round 1:
- Chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet).
- Work 2 double crochets (dc) into the magic ring.
- Chain 2.
- Repeat the following sequence two more times: *3 dc into the ring, chain 2*.
- After the third repeat, you should have a total of 12 dc and 3 chain-2 spaces.
- Join the round by slip stitching (sl st) into the top of the beginning chain-3.
- Fasten off the mustard yarn.
- Round 2:
- Join the cream yarn in any of the chain-2 spaces from Round 1.
- Chain 3 (counts as your first dc), then work 2 dc in the same chain-2 space.
- Chain 2.
- In the same chain-2 space, work 3 more dc.
- Now, repeat the following sequence around: *3 dc in the next chain-2 space, chain 2, 3 dc in the same space*.
- After completing the round, you should have 12 dc and 4 chain-2 spaces.
- Join the round by slip stitching into the top of the beginning chain-3.
- Fasten off the cream yarn.
- Repeat Rounds: Continue to alternate between the mustard and cream yarn, repeating Rounds 1 and 2 until you achieve your desired blanket size. Each granny square should measure approximately 4 inches across.
- Joining the Squares: Once you have made enough squares, join them together using a whip stitch or your preferred joining method. Align the squares in your desired layout before stitching them together.
- Adding a Border: To finish your blanket, work a round of single crochet (sc) in cream yarn around the entire blanket. Make sure to work 3 sc in each corner space to keep the corners neat and rounded.
- Final Touches: Fasten off your yarn and weave in any loose ends to give your blanket a polished look.
Now you have your very own Cozy Crochet Granny Square Blanket! Enjoy the warmth and charm it brings to your home.
