Cozy Chunky Cable Knit Cardigan Pattern
Materials:
- Chunky yarn (approximately 1200-1500 yards, in a soft neutral color)
- US size 15 (10 mm) circular knitting needles (32-inch cable recommended)
- Stitch markers
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
Gauge:
12 stitches and 16 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Abbreviations:
- CO: Cast On
- ST: Stitch
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- RS: Right Side
- WS: Wrong Side
- BO: Bind Off
- Cable (C4F): Cable 4 Front - 4 stitches are crossed from back to front.
Sizes:
This cardigan is designed to fit sizes S to XXL. Adjustments can be made by altering the stitch count.
Instructions:
Back Panel:
- CO 60 stitches.
- Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 6 rows.
- Switch to stockinette stitch (knit every row) until work measures 24 inches from CO edge.
- Begin Cable Pattern (Row 1): K4, C4F, K2, P10, K2, C4F, K4.
- Repeat Cable Pattern for the next 12 rows.
- Continue in stockinette until the back panel measures 30 inches from CO edge.
- BO all stitches.
Front Panels (Make 2):
- CO 30 stitches.
- Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 6 rows.
- Switch to stockinette stitch until work measures 24 inches from CO edge.
- Begin Cable Pattern (Row 1): K4, C4F, K2, P10, K2, C4F, K4.
- Repeat Cable Pattern for the next 12 rows.
- Continue in stockinette until front panel measures 30 inches from CO edge.
- BO all stitches.
Sleeves (Make 2):
- CO 40 stitches.
- Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 6 rows.
- Switch to stockinette stitch until the sleeve measures 22 inches from CO edge.
- BO all stitches.
Assembly:
- Lay back panel flat, with the RS facing up.
- Using a tapestry needle, sew the sides of the front panels to the edges of the back panel, leaving an opening for the armholes.
- Attach each sleeve to the armholes, ensuring that they are evenly aligned.
- Weave in all loose ends with a yarn needle.
Finishing:
- Block the cardigan gently to shape.
