Colorful Granny Square Blanket Pattern

Materials:

• Worsted weight yarn in various colors (choose at least six different colors for variety).
• Crochet hook size H/8 (5mm).
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends.
• Scissors.

Gauge:

Each granny square measures approximately 5 inches x 5 inches.

Abbreviations:

• ch: chain
• sl st: slip stitch
• sc: single crochet
• dc: double crochet
• sp: space
• st: stitch
• *: repeat instructions following the asterisk as directed

Instructions:

Granny Square:

1. Start with a magic ring.
   Round 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc into the ring, ch 2; *(3 dc, ch 2)* 3 times; sl st to top of beginning ch-3 to close the round.
2. Round 2: Change to a new color, sl st to the nearest corner ch-2 sp, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in the same ch-2 sp, ch 1; *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in next ch-2 sp, ch 1* 3 times; sl st to top of beginning ch-3 to close round.
3. Round 3: Change to another color, sl st to the nearest corner ch-2 sp, ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), 2 dc in the same ch-2 sp, ch 1; *(3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in corner ch-2 sp, ch 1)* 3 times; 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1; sl st to beginning ch-3 to close round.
4. Finish off, weave in ends.

Join Granny Squares:

1. Lay out the squares in the desired pattern, 6x8 for the blanket.
2. Use a single crochet method to join them:
3. Hold two squares with wrong sides together. Insert hook through the back loop of the edge dc of both squares, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through all loops on hook (single crochet made). Continue along one edge and finish with a sl st. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Border:

1. Attach yarn to any corner where two squares meet. Work (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in that corner.
   Crochet one round of granny clusters (3 dc) across the entire perimeter of the blanket, making sure to (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in each corner.
   Finish with a round of single crochet stitches all around, placing 3 sc in each corner ch-2 sp.
2. Fasten off, weave in all ends.
