Lacy Open-Front Cardigan
This project is a beautifully airy cardigan featuring lacy stitches that drape gracefully. Suitable for spring or summer, this piece works well over both casual and dressy outfits.
Materials
- Yarn: 4 skeins of lightweight cotton yarn in beige (approximately 200 yards per skein)
- Needles: Size 4 (3.5 mm) circular knitting needles
- Stitch markers
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
Gauge
24 stitches and 30 rows = 4 inches in lace pattern. Adjust needle size if necessary to meet gauge.
Abbreviations
- CO: Cast On
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- YO: Yarn Over
- K2tog: Knit 2 stitches together (decrease)
- RS: Right Side
- WS: Wrong Side
Instructions
Body
- CO 120 stitches.
- Row 1 (RS): K all stitches.
- Row 2 (WS): P all stitches.
- Row 3: K1, *YO, K2tog; repeat from * to last stitch, K1.
- Row 4: P all stitches.
- Repeat Rows 1-4 until the piece measures 30 inches from the cast-on edge.
Sleeves
- After reaching the desired length, divide the work on your needles. Slip 30 stitches onto a stitch holder for each sleeve.
- Continue working the remaining stitches for the body, decreasing for the armholes. (K1, K2tog) at the beginning and end of each RS row until 60 stitches remain.
Finishing the Sleeves
- Take the stitches from the holder and place back on the needle.
- Starting at the end of the stitches, K every row for 12 rows, then start the lace pattern as noted above.
- Repeat for the other sleeve.
Final Assembly
- Block the cardigan to enhance the lace.
- Weave in all loose ends with a yarn needle.
- Your cardigan is now ready to wear!
