Vibrant Sunburst Crochet Potholders
Introduction
Welcome to the world of crochet! Today, we will be creating beautiful and functional Vibrant Sunburst Crochet Potholders. These potholders feature a striking sunburst pattern in red and cream, making them not only practical for your kitchen but also a lovely addition to your home decor. This project is perfect for beginners, so grab your materials and let’s get started!
Materials Needed
- Yarn: Super bulky cotton yarn in red and cream
- Hook: Size 9mm crochet hook
- Scissors: For cutting yarn
- Tapestry needle: For weaving in ends
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Create a Magic Ring: Using the red yarn, make a magic ring. This will be the center of your potholder.
- Round 1: Chain 1 (ch 1), then work 12 single crochets (sc) into the magic ring. Join with a slip stitch (sl st) to the first single crochet to close the round.
- Round 2: Switch to cream yarn. Chain 1, then work 2 single crochets in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet (you should have 24 single crochets now).
- Round 3: Switch back to red yarn. Chain 1, then work *1 single crochet in the next stitch, 2 single crochets in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet (you should have 36 single crochets).
- Round 4: Switch to cream yarn. Chain 1, then work *1 single crochet in the next 2 stitches, 2 single crochets in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet (you should have 48 single crochets).
- Round 5: Switch back to red yarn. Chain 1, then work *1 single crochet in the next 3 stitches, 2 single crochets in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet (you should have 60 single crochets).
- Round 6: With cream yarn, chain 1 and work a single crochet in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the first single crochet.
- Round 7: With red yarn, chain 3 (this counts as a double crochet), then work 2 double crochets (dc) in the same stitch. Now, *skip the next stitch, and work 3 double crochets in the next stitch*. Repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain-3.
- Fasten Off: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull the tail through the last loop to secure it. Weave in any loose ends with a tapestry needle.
- Create a Hanging Loop: Attach red yarn to any stitch on the edge of your potholder. Chain 10, then slip stitch to the same stitch to create a loop. Fasten off and weave in the ends.
Congratulations! You have successfully created your very own Vibrant Sunburst Crochet Potholders. These colorful and functional pieces will surely brighten up your kitchen. Enjoy your crafting!
