Materials Needed
- Yarn: Worsted weight yarn in a neutral or pastel color
- Needles: US 8 (5mm) knitting needles
- Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
- Pillow Form: 16x16 inch pillow form
- Scissors
- Tapestry Needle for seaming
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Cast On: Begin by casting on 80 stitches onto your knitting needles. Make sure your stitches are not too tight to allow for easy movement.
- Ribbing: Work in 2x2 ribbing for 1 inch. This means you will knit 2 stitches, then purl 2 stitches, and repeat this pattern until you reach the desired length of 1 inch.
- Begin Cable Pattern:
- Row 1 (Right Side): *K4, P4; repeat from * to end of the row.
- Row 2 (Wrong Side): *P4, K4; repeat from * to end of the row.
- Row 3: *C4F (Cable 4 Front), P4; repeat from * to end of the row. (To perform C4F, you will need to hold 2 stitches in front of your work, knit the next 2 stitches, then knit the 2 held stitches.)
- Row 4: Repeat Row 2.
- Repeat Pattern: Continue repeating Rows 1-4 until your piece measures 16 inches from the cast-on edge. This will create the textured cable design.
- Final Ribbing: Once you reach the desired length, work in 2x2 ribbing for another inch to match the beginning of your piece.
- Bind Off: Bind off your stitches in pattern. This means you will knit the first two stitches, then pass the first stitch over the second stitch, and continue this way until all stitches are bound off.
- Seaming: Fold the piece in half with the right sides together. Using the mattress stitch, seam the sides together. This stitch will create an invisible seam, ensuring a neat finish.
- Insert Pillow Form: Once the sides are seamed, insert your 16x16 inch pillow form into the pocket you’ve created.
- Final Seam: Seam the remaining edge using the mattress stitch to close the pillow completely.
Congratulations! You have now completed your Cozy Cable Knit Pillow. Enjoy the warmth and elegance it brings to your home decor!
