Knitting Festive Ice Skater Christmas Stocking Free Pattern
Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in the following colors:
- Red
- White
- Green
- Blue
- Brown for skin
- Black
- Size 7 (4.5 mm) knitting needles
- Yarn needle
- Stitch markers
Gauge:
20 sts and 28 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch.
Instructions:
Cuff:
- With red yarn, CO 80 sts. Join to work in the round, being careful not to twist. PM for beginning of round.
- Work K2, P2 ribbing for 6 rows.
- Switch to white yarn and knit 2 rounds.
- Switch to red yarn and knit 2 rounds. Continue in this color pattern, alternating every 2 rounds for a total of 8 stripes, ending with white.
Leg:
- With blue yarn, knit until the leg measures 12 inches from the cast-on edge.
- Follow the chart for the ice skater motif, working back and forth if needed, maintaining stockinette stitch throughout.
- Once the motif is completed, continue knitting with blue yarn until leg measures 15 inches total.
Heel:
- Switch to red yarn. Work the heel flap over the first 40 sts. Work in stockinette stitch, turning work after each row for 20 rows.
- Turn heel following this pattern:
- Row 1 (RS): K22, ssk, K1, turn.
- Row 2 (WS): Sl 1, P7, p2tog, P1, turn.
- Row 3: Sl 1, K8, ssk, K1, turn.
- Repeat rows 2-3 until all heel stitches are used up. End on a RS row.
Foot:
- Pick up and knit 12 sts along each side of heel flap. Resume working in the round, continuing with red yarn for 25 rounds.
Toe:
- Switch to white yarn. Begin decreasing as follows:
- Round 1: Knit.
- Round 2: *K8, k2tog; repeat from * around.
- Round 3: Knit.
- Round 4: *K7, k2tog; repeat from * around.
- Continue in this manner until 8 sts remain. Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining stitches and pull tight to close.
Finishing:
- Weave in all ends.
- Block stocking lightly to shape.
- Sew on a small loop of red yarn at the top corner for hanging.
