Materials:
- Worsted weight yarn in yellow, orange, and white
- Small amount of red yarn for beak and tail
- Size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook
- Polyester fiberfill stuffing
- Yarn needle
- Black embroidery floss for eyes
Gauge:
Gauge is not critical for this project.
Abbreviations:
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- sc2tog = single crochet two together (decrease)
- st(s) = stitch(es)
- sl st = slip stitch
- FO = finish off
Instructions:
Body:
- Using yellow yarn, make a magic ring. 6 sc into ring. (6 sts)
- 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
- (Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st) around. (18 sts)
- (Sc in next 2 sts, 2 sc in next st) around. (24 sts)
- Sc in each st around for the next 4 rounds.
- (Sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog) around. (18 sts)
- (Sc in next st, sc2tog) around. (12 sts)
- Start stuffing the body firmly.
- Sc2tog around. (6 sts)
- FO, leaving a long tail. Use the yarn needle to close up the hole.
Head:
- Repeat steps 1-5 as for the Body using yellow yarn.
- FO, leaving a tail for sewing to the body.
Wings (make 2):
- Using yellow yarn, ch 2.
- 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. (6 sts)
- 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts)
- Sc in each st around.
- FO and leave a tail for sewing to the body.
Beak:
- Using red yarn, ch 3.
- Turn and sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch.
- FO, leave a long tail for sewing to the head.
Feet (make 2):
- Using orange yarn, make a magic ring. 5 sc into ring. (5 sts)
- Sc in each st around for the next round.
- FO and leave a tail for sewing to the body.
Tail:
- Using red yarn, ch 4.
- Sc in 2nd ch from hook and next 2 chs.
- FO, leaving a tail for sewing to the body.
Assembly:
- Sew the head onto the body.
- Attach the wings to each side of the body.
- Sew the feet to the bottom of the body, positioning them slightly forward.
- Attach the beak to the front of the head.
- Sew the tail to the back of the body.
- With black embroidery floss, embroider the eyes above the beak.
