Whimsical Colorful Chef's Mittens

Materials Needed:

• Worsted weight cotton yarn in assorted colors (main color, two contrasting colors)
• 4.0 mm (G) crochet hook
• Yarn needle
• Scissors

Gauge:

16 stitches and 20 rows = 4 inches in double crochet

Size:

Child size (ages 3-6 years)

Pattern Instructions:

1. Foundation: Chain 30 with main color. Join to form a ring without twisting.
2. Round 1: Chain 2 (counts as first dc), make 29 dc in the ring. Join with a slip stitch to top of beginning chain. (30 dc)
3. Round 2: Chain 2, dc in same stitch. Change to contrasting color #1, *2 dc in next stitch, 1 dc in next*; repeat from * to * around. Join with a slip stitch. (45 stitches)
4. Round 3: Change to contrasting color #2. Chain 2, *1 dc in first stitch, 2 dc in next*; repeat around. Join. (60 dc)
5. Round 4-6: Continue with double crochet in the same way, gradually increasing by 15 stitches each round until you reach 105 stitches.
6. Round 7: Begin working in the round without increasing. Continue for 10 rounds.
7. Round 8: For the thumb hole, leave the next 15 stitches unworked. Chain 1, skip the last 15 stitches, join with a new round directly below the last dc made.
8. Round 9: For the thumb, work 15 dc into the remaining stitches. Join and fasten off.
9. Round 10: Rejoin yarn to the 15 unworked stitches. Chain 1 and make 15 dc around the thumb area to create the mitten shape. Continue for another round.
10. Finish off after a total of 3 rounds. Weave in all ends.
