Crochet Textured Twisted Cable Mittens

Materials:

• 1 skein of WORSTED weight yarn (Approx. 180 yds)
• 8.0 mm crochet hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle
• Measuring tape

Stitches Used:

• ch - chain
• sl st - slip stitch
• SC - single crochet
• HDC - half double crochet
• Cable Stitch - (Yarn over, insert hook into stitch, yarn over again, pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops, yarn over, insert hook into the same stitch, yarn over and pull through all loops on hook)

Gauge:

4” x 4” = 10 SC by 10 rows

Size:

Adult Medium (adjustable by changing number of stitches)

Pattern Instructions:

1. Start with a foundation chain of 36 stitches.
2. Row 1: HDC in 2nd ch from hook, and in each ch across (35 HDC), turn.
3. Row 2: Ch 2, HDC in first st, *CABLE stitch in next st, HDC in next st* repeat from * to * across, turn.
4. Row 3: Ch 2, HDC in first st, HDC across (35 HDC), turn.
5. Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until the piece measures 7 inches from the foundation chain, ending on a Row 3.
6. Fold the piece in half lengthwise and slip stitch the two short ends together to form a tube.
7. For the thumb hole, ch 7 and join to form a loop. Work 5 rows of HDC around this loop, then join with a slip stitch.
8. To create the thumb, ch 20 and work in rows of SC or HDC until the desired length is reached, join to base of thumb hole. Fasten off and weave in ends.
9. Repeat for the other mitten.

Finishing:

Block gently if needed to shape, and enjoy your new mittens!
