Gauge

Gauge is not critical, but the recommended tension is 8 stitches in 10 cm with the twisted cable stitch.

Stitch Abbreviations

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• dc = double crochet
• tbl = through back loop

Special Stitch: Twisted Cable (tc)

To make a twisted cable, skip 2 stitches, 3 dc in next stitch, then pull the first 2 dc over the last dc, creating a twist. Back loop only for the next row.

Instructions

1. Make a foundation chain of 20 stitches.
2. Row 1: sc in each chain, turn.
3. Row 2: ch 1, sc in each stitch, turn.
4. Row 3: ch 2, dc in each stitch, turn.
5. Repeat Rows 1-3 until piece measures 15cm.
6. Begin the Twisted Cable: for every 7 rows, replace the 2nd row in sequence with 1 tc. Repeat until you reach the desired length (approx. 25cm).
7. To shape the thumb hole: at 12cm, skip 3 stitches, then continue with the remaining stitches. After 3 rows, chain 3, skip 3 stitches, and reconnect to continue the body.
8. Finish the last row with 1 sc around the edge to create a clean finish.
9. Fasten off and weave in the ends.

Finishing

Complete the mitts by adding a few rows of ribbing on the top and bottom using the sc stitch. This adds extra stretch and holds the mitts in place while you wear them.
