Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn (approximately 200 yards in tan color)
  • Size I (5.5 mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Gauge

10 rows x 10 stitches = 4 inches in pattern stitch. Gauge is not critical for this project, but keep this in mind for sizing adjustments.

Abbreviations

  • ch - chain
  • sc - single crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • st(s) - stitch(es)

Instructions

  1. Foundation Chain: Start by making a slip knot and chain 30.
  2. Row 1: In the second chain from the hook, make 1 single crochet. Continue to single crochet in each chain across (29 stitches). Turn your work.
  3. Row 2: Ch 1 (this does not count as a stitch), make 1 single crochet in the first stitch. Then, in the next stitch, make 1 double crochet. *In the next stitch, make 1 single crochet, then in the next, make 1 double crochet.* Repeat from * to * until the end of the row, ending with a single crochet in the last stitch. Turn your work.
  4. Row 3: Ch 1, make 1 single crochet in the first stitch, then in the next stitch, make 1 double crochet. Repeat the same pattern as in Row 2 until the end, ending with a single crochet. Turn your work.
  5. Repeat Rows 2 and 3: Continue repeating Rows 2 and 3 until your scarf measures approximately 60 inches in length, or desired length.
  6. Final Row: For the last row, make 1 single crochet in each stitch across to create a nice finish.
  7. Fasten Off: Cut the yarn leaving a long tail, pull the yarn through the last stitch and tighten. Use the tapestry needle to weave in any loose ends.
