Crochet Playful Textured Fringe Scarf Free Pattern

This playful scarf is perfect for beginners looking to experiment with textures and fringes. Made using bulky yarn, it works up quickly and is suitable for all winter outings.

Materials Needed

  • Bulky yarn (approximately 200 yards)
  • Size N (10 mm) crochet hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry needle

Gauge

Gauge is not essential for this project but should be approximately 6 stitches and 6 rows = 4 inches in double crochet (DC).

Pattern Instructions

Foundation Chain

Chain 20 (or desired width of the scarf).

Row 1

In the second chain from the hook, make a double crochet. Continue with double crochet in each chain across. Turn.

Row 2

Chain 2. In the first stitch, make 2 double crochets (this creates a textured effect). Now, alternate between one double crochet and two double crochets across the row. Turn.

Row 3

Chain 2. In the first stitch, make one double crochet, then one half double crochet, then two double crochets in the next stitch. Repeat until the end of the row. Turn.

Row 4

Chain 2. In the first stitch, make one double crochet. Skip the next stitch, then make 5 double crochets in the next stitch (this creates the fringe effect). Skip one stitch, and repeat until the end. Turn.

Row 5

Repeat Row 2.

Repeat Rows 3-5

Continue to repeat Rows 3-5 until your scarf reaches approximately 60 inches or your desired length.

Finishing

To finish, cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Weave in the ends with a tapestry needle. For the fringes, cut yarn strands about 12 inches long and tie them into clusters on both ends of the scarf.

Blocking

Gently block your scarf to enhance the textures.
