Crochet Elegant Ombre Triangle Shawl Free Pattern

Materials Needed

  • Yarn: Gradient yarn in shades of blue to cream (preferably cake yarn like It's a Wrap)
  • Crochet Hook: Size H/8 (5 mm)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Gauge

Gauge is not critical for this pattern but should be approximately 16 dc and 8 rows = 4 inches after blocking.

Abbreviations

  • ch: chain
  • dc: double crochet
  • sc: single crochet
  • sl st: slip stitch
  • tr: treble crochet

Instructions

Foundation and Setup

  1. Ch 4, sl st into first ch to form a ring.
  2. Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc into ring, ch 2, 3 dc into ring, turn. (6 dc, 1 ch-2 space)

Body of Shawl

Repeat these rows, increasing at the beginning, middle, and end of each row:

  1. Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in the same st, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip the next dc, dc in next dc, 2 dc in ch-2 space, ch 2, 2 dc in same ch-2 space, dc in next dc, ch 1, skip the next dc, dc in next, 2 dc in top of the turning chain, turn.
  2. Row 3: Ch 3, dc in the same st, *dc in each dc to ch-1 space, ch 1, skip next dc, (dc, ch 2, dc) in ch-2 space; rep from * once, dc in each dc to last dc, 2 dc in top of the turning chain, turn.

Continue Row 3, repeating until the shawl reaches the desired size.

Edging

  1. With the darkest shade of blue, work around the shawl:
  2. Row 1: *Ch 5, sc in 3rd ch from hook, sc in next ch, sc in the base st, skip next st, sc in next st; rep from * around, join with sl st to beginning sc.
  3. Fasten off and weave in ends.

Finishing

Block shawl to open up the lace pattern and allow it to dry completely.
