Lush Floral Layered Square Motif

Materials:

• Worsted weight yarn in three colors (Main Color, Flower Color, and Leaf Color)
• 4.0 mm (G) crochet hook
• Scissors
• Tapestry needle for weaving in ends

Finished Size: 6 inches square

Gauge:

15 stitches x 12 rows = 4 inches in double crochet. Adjust hook size if necessary to obtain gauge.

• ch = chain
• sc = single crochet
• dc = double crochet
• tr = triple crochet
• sl st = slip stitch

Instructions:

Base Square:

1. With Main Color, ch 26.
2. Row 1: dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 21 ch, turn. (24 dc)
3. Row 2: ch 3 (counts as dc here and throughout), dc in next 23 dc, turn.
4. Repeat Row 2 until square measures 6 inches. Fasten off, leave a long tail for sewing.

Flower Center:

1. With Flower Color, ch 5, join with sl st to form a ring.
2. Rnd 1: 8 sc in ring. Join with sl st to first sc.
3. Rnd 2: ch 1, (2 sc in next st) around. Join with sl st to first sc. (16 sc)
4. Rnd 3: ch 1, (1 dc in next st, 2 tr in next st, 1 dc in next st) 4 times, join with sl st. Fasten off leaving a long tail.

Leaves:

1. With Leaf Color, ch 7.
2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook, hdc in next ch, dc in next 3 ch, hdc in next ch, sc in last ch. Turn.
3. Row 2: ch 1, sc in first st, ch 1 and sk next st, sc in next st, ch 1 and sk next st, sc in last st. Fasten off.
4. Make 2 leaves.

Assembly:

1. Join Flower Center to the middle of the base square using the long tail left from the flower.
2. Sew leaves on either side of the flower to create a lovely layered look.
3. Weave in all ends securely.
