Crochet Light and Lacy Spa Mittens Free Pattern
Materials
- Medium weight cotton yarn (approximately 100 yards)
- Crochet hook size H (5 mm)
- Scissors
- Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
Gauge
14 stitches and 16 rows = 4 inches in double crochet.
Abbreviations
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- st = stitch
Instructions
Size
This pattern fits an average adult hand. Adjust by adding or subtracting stitches in multiples of 3 to fit.
Body of the Mitt
- Chain 30 (or desired length for wrist size).
- Row 1: In the second chain from the hook, dc. Continue dc in each chain across (29 dc total), turn.
- Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as first dc), *skip 2 dc, (dc, ch 1, dc) in next dc*; repeat from * to * across, ending with skip 2 dc and dc in last dc. Turn.
- Row 3: Ch 3, *(dc in ch 1 space, ch 1)*; repeat * until end of row, dc in last st. Turn.
- Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until piece measures 6 inches or desired length to just above the wrist.
Shaping the Thumb
- Row 1: Ch 1, sc across (29 sc total), turn.
- Row 2: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next*; repeat from * to end (39 sc total), turn.
- Continue working in rounds, adding 1 sc every 5th sc until the thumb base measures 2 inches. Fasten off.
Finishing
- Using the tapestry needle, weave in all ends.
- Make a second mitten in the same way.
