Materials
- Worsted weight yarn in red, green, white, and brown
- Size H (5mm) crochet hook
- Yarn needle for weaving in ends
- Scissors
Stitches Used
- Chain (ch)
- Slip stitch (sl st)
- Single crochet (sc)
- Half double crochet (hdc)
- Double crochet (dc)
- Popcorn stitch (p-st)
Notes
- Gauge is not critical for this project, but aiming for 4 stitches per inch with worsted weight yarn will yield a nice size.
- Change colors as indicated in the pattern.
Pattern
Stocking Body
- With red yarn, ch 40 to start the stocking cuff.
- Row 1: Hdc in the second ch from the hook and in each ch across. Turn. (39 hdc)
- Row 2: Ch 2, dc in each st across. Turn. (39 dc)
- Row 3: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn. (39 sc)
- Row 4: Ch 2, dc in each st across, changing to white yarn in the last yarn over of the last st. Turn. (39 dc)
- Repeat rows 2-4 until the body is approximately 14 inches long (or desired length).
Colorwork Design
- Change to green yarn and work the following across two rows:
- Row 1: Ch 2, *dc in next 19 st, p-st in next st; repeat from * until the end. Turn.
- Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn.
Heel and Toe
- With brown yarn, sc evenly around the toe, working in the round for 2 inches.
- For the heel, slip stitch the last round closed, then turn your work.
- Continue working in rows for the heel flap, joining colors as desired.
Finishing
- Fasten off and weave in all ends.
- Create a loop for hanging by chaining 20 and attaching it to the top of the stocking.
