Crochet Festive Striped Elf Hat with Bow Free Pattern

Materials Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn in red and white
  • Crochet hook size G (4.0 mm)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • inc: increase (2 sc in one stitch)
  • st(s): stitch(es)

Instructions:

Hat:

  1. With red yarn, create a magic ring.
  2. Rnd 1: 4 sc in the ring. (4 sts)
  3. Rnd 2: [inc] around. (8 sts)
  4. Rnd 3: sc in each st around. (8 sts)
  5. Rnd 4: [sc 1, inc] around. (12 sts)
  6. Rnd 5: sc in each st around. (12 sts)
  7. Continue increasing every other row by 4 sts until you reach 60 sts.
  8. Alternate 4 rows of red and white stripes until hat reaches desired length (approximately 30 rows in total).

Brim:

  1. With white yarn, join at the bottom edge of the hat.
  2. Rnds 1-3: sc in each st around.
  3. Finish off and weave in ends.

Bow:

  1. With red yarn, ch 15.
  2. Row 1: sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across. Turn. (14 sts)
  3. Rows 2-5: ch 1, sc in each st across. Turn.
  4. Finish off and wrap yarn around the center to form the bow shape. Secure with tapestry needle.
  5. Attach bow to the base of the hat.
