This pattern is easy to follow and suitable for crocheters of all skill levels, making it a great project for beginners and experienced crafters alike.
Materials Needed
- Yarn: Medium weight cotton yarn in various colors (suggested colors: blue, pink, dark purple, light pink, red, cream)
- Hook: 5.0 mm (H) crochet hook
- Gauge: 4 inches = 12 stitches in double crochet
- Scissors: For cutting yarn
- Tapestry needle: For weaving in ends
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Start with a Magic Ring: Create a magic ring by wrapping the yarn around your fingers and pulling the working yarn through the loop. Chain 3 (this counts as your first double crochet).
- Work into the Ring: Work 11 double crochets (dc) into the magic ring. You should have a total of 12 double crochets including the initial chain 3.
- Join the Round: Join your work with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning chain (the chain 3). This completes your first round.
- Begin the Second Round: Chain 2 (this counts as your first dc for this round). Work 1 dc in the same stitch as the chain 2, then dc in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the chain 2.
- Change Colors: Follow the color pattern as desired:
- 2 rows of blue
- 1 row of pink
- 1 row of dark purple
- 1 row of light pink
- 1 row of red
- 1 row of cream
- Adding Texture: For the textured bobble stitch, in the designated rows, yarn over, insert your hook into the stitch, yarn over again, and pull through. You will have three loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through the first two loops. Repeat this process until you have 5 loops on your hook. Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops to create the bobble stitch.
- Continue Rounds: Continue working in rounds, alternating colors and incorporating the bobble stitches as desired, until the cowl reaches your preferred height.
- Finish the Cowl: Once you have reached the desired height, finish with a round of slip stitches to create a neat edge. This will help to stabilize the top of your cowl.
- Fasten Off: Cut the yarn, leaving a long tail. Pull the tail through the last loop to secure it. Weave in any loose ends with a tapestry needle to give your cowl a clean finish.
Now you have a beautiful, colorful textured cowl to keep you warm and stylish! Enjoy your new creation and don’t forget to share your finished project!
