Chic Textured Tri-Color Cowl

Materials Needed:

  • 3 colors of worsted weight yarn (A, B, C) - approx. 100 yards each
  • Size J (6.0 mm) crochet hook
  • Yarn needle for weaving ends
  • Scissors

Gauge: 12 dc x 8 rows = 4 inches in pattern

Size: Approximately 12 inches wide x 30 inches in circumference

Notes: This cowl is worked in the round, and the color changes create a beautiful gradient effect.

Pattern Instructions:

Step 1: Foundation

  1. With Color A, chain 70 (or a multiple of 4 + 2 for your desired width).
  2. Join with a slip stitch to form a ring, being careful not to twist the chain.

Step 2: Round 1

  1. Ch 2 (counts as first dc), dc in the same stitch.
  2. Continue dc in each stitch around. Join with a slip stitch to the top of the beginning ch-2.

Step 3: Round 2

  1. Switch to Color B.
  2. Ch 1, *FPDC (front post double crochet) around the next dc, BPDC (back post double crochet) around the next dc; repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch.

Step 4: Round 3

  1. Change to Color C.
  2. Ch 2, *dc in the next FPDC, FPDC around the next BPDC; repeat from * around. Join with a slip stitch.

Step 5: Rounds 4-8

  1. Repeat Rounds 2 and 3 with your color changes until you reach your desired height.

Step 6: Final Round

  1. With Color A, ch 1, sc in each stitch around for a finished edge.
  2. Join with a slip stitch and fasten off, weaving in all ends.
