Cozy Green Cable Knit Sweater Pattern

Materials:

  • Yarn: Medium weight (4) in forest green, approximately 1200 yards
  • Needles: Size US 8 (5mm) circular needles
  • Cable needle
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers
  • Measuring tape

Gauge:

18 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Abbreviations:

  • CO - Cast On
  • K - Knit
  • P - Purl
  • C6F - Cable 6 front (Slip 3 stitches to cable needle and hold in front, K3, then K3 from cable needle)
  • BO - Bind Off

Instructions:

Back:

  1. CO 100 stitches.
  2. Ribbing: K2, P2 across row. Repeat for 2 inches.
  3. Body: Begin cable pattern:
    • Row 1 (RS): [K2, P2] 2 times, C6F, P2, K2, P2; repeat across row.
    • Row 2 (WS): [K2, P2] 2 times, K6, P2, K2, P2; repeat across row.
    • Repeat Rows 1-2 for the cable pattern until work measures 24 inches from the beginning. End on WS row.
  4. Shoulder Shaping: BO each side of work 8 stitches, every other row, 3 times (76 stitches remain).
  5. Neck Opening: BO 22 stitches for the center neck, K2tog both edges for 1 inch.

Front:

  1. Work as for back until work measures 22 inches. End on WS row.
  2. Neck Shaping: BO center 30 stitches, K2tog at neck edge every other row until shoulder measures 1 inch more.

Sleeves:

  1. CO 40 stitches.
  2. Ribbing: K2, P2 for 2 inches.
  3. Increase 1 stitch each end every 6 rows to 70 stitches while maintaining cable pattern.
  4. Work sleeve for 18 inches, ending on WS row.
  5. BO loosely.

Finishing:

  1. Block pieces to measurements.
  2. Seam shoulders, sides, and sleeves. Sew sleeves to body.
  3. Weave in all ends using the tapestry needle.
