Materials Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn in forest green
  • Size US 8 (5mm) knitting needles
  • 1 inch wooden button
  • Tapestry needle
  • Stitch markers

Gauge:

18 stitches x 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch

Abbreviations:

  • CO: Cast On
  • BO: Bind Off
  • K: Knit
  • P: Purl
  • st(s): Stitch(es)

Instructions:

Cape:

Neckline:

  1. CO 80 sts.
  2. Work in garter stitch (knit every row) for 6 rows to create a border.

Body:

  1. Change to stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row) and continue until the piece measures 15 inches from the beginning.
  2. Decrease Row (RS): K3, (K2tog, K10) repeat to end of row. (72 sts)
  3. Work in stockinette stitch for 4 more inches.
  4. Decrease Row (RS): K3, (K2tog, K9) repeat to end of row. (66 sts)

Buttonhole:

  1. On the next RS row, K3, YO, K2tog, K to end.
  2. Continue in stockinette stitch for another inch.
  3. Switch back to garter stitch for the last 6 rows.
  4. BO all sts loosely.

Finishing:

  • Sew the button on the opposite side of the buttonhole.
  • Weave in all loose ends with a tapestry needle.
