Materials Needed:
- Worsted weight yarn in forest green
- Size US 8 (5mm) knitting needles
- 1 inch wooden button
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
Gauge:
18 stitches x 24 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Abbreviations:
- CO: Cast On
- BO: Bind Off
- K: Knit
- P: Purl
- st(s): Stitch(es)
Instructions:
Cape:
Neckline:
- CO 80 sts.
- Work in garter stitch (knit every row) for 6 rows to create a border.
Body:
- Change to stockinette stitch (knit 1 row, purl 1 row) and continue until the piece measures 15 inches from the beginning.
- Decrease Row (RS): K3, (K2tog, K10) repeat to end of row. (72 sts)
- Work in stockinette stitch for 4 more inches.
- Decrease Row (RS): K3, (K2tog, K9) repeat to end of row. (66 sts)
Buttonhole:
- On the next RS row, K3, YO, K2tog, K to end.
- Continue in stockinette stitch for another inch.
- Switch back to garter stitch for the last 6 rows.
- BO all sts loosely.
Finishing:
- Sew the button on the opposite side of the buttonhole.
- Weave in all loose ends with a tapestry needle.
