Striped Tree Cozy Pattern

Materials

  • Worsted weight yarn in shades of blue, green, purple, and pink (approximately 200 yards total)
  • Size 8 (5.0 mm) knitting needles
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors
  • Measuring tape

Gauge

4 stitches and 6 rows = 1 inch in garter stitch

Abbreviations

  • k - knit
  • p - purl
  • st(s) - stitch(es)

Instructions

  1. Cast On
    Using your preferred method, cast on 50 stitches.
  2. Striped Section
    • Rows 1-4: With blue yarn, knit across (garter stitch).
    • Rows 5-8: Switch to green yarn, knit across.
    • Rows 9-12: Switch to purple yarn, knit across.
    • Rows 13-16: Switch to pink yarn, knit across.
    • Repeat rows 1-16 until work measures 18 inches or desired length, ending with a green section.
  3. Textured Dots
    • Using purple yarn, create dots by knitting three stitches, then purling the next stitch; repeat until the end of the row.
    • On the next row, purl the purled stitches and knit the knitted stitches.
  4. Finishing
    • Bind off all stitches loosely in pattern.
    • Use the tapestry needle to weave in all ends thoroughly.
    • Wrap the cozy around a tree trunk and use leftover yarn to sew the seams together securely.
