Elegant Crochet Lace Shawl Pattern

Materials

  • Yarn: Light worsted weight cotton yarn in sage green, approx. 500 yards
  • Crochet hook: Size H/8 (5.0 mm)
  • Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
  • Scissors

Gauge

4 inches = 16 stitches and 8 rows of double crochet (dc)

Abbreviations

  • ch - chain
  • dc - double crochet
  • sc - single crochet
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • st - stitch
  • rep - repeat

Instructions

Body of Shawl

  1. Ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.
  2. Row 1: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in ring, ch 2, 3 dc in ring. Turn. (6 dc, 1 ch-2 space)
  3. Row 2: Ch 3, *dc in each dc across until ch-2 space, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in ch-2 space*, dc in each st across. Turn.
  4. Rows 3-36: Rep Row 2, increasing dc stitches along each side. Note: Continue until piece measures approximately 60 inches across top edge.

Lace Edging

  1. Attach yarn at end of shawl.
  2. Row 37: Ch 3, dc in same st, *ch 2, skip next st, dc in next dc* rep across. Turn.
  3. Row 38: Ch 3, dc in next dc, *ch 3, skip ch-2 space, (2 dc in next dc) twice* rep to end. Turn.
  4. Row 39-44: Alternate Row 37 and Row 38, creating the lacy effect.

Final Border

  1. Row 45: Ch 1, sc evenly across the top edge of shawl, creating a clean finished look. Fasten off.

Finishing

  1. Weave in all ends using a tapestry needle.
  2. Block the shawl to open up the lace pattern and even out edges, setting it to your desired shape and size.
