Crocheted Dinosaur Plush Pattern

Materials:

  • Chunky yarn in orange
  • Crochet hook size appropriate for chunky yarn (usually 6.5 mm or larger)
  • Polyester stuffing
  • Two safety eyes (12 mm)
  • Tapestry needle
  • Scissors

Gauge:

Gauge is not critical for this project, but ensure that your stitches are tight enough to prevent stuffing from showing.

Abbreviations:

  • ch: chain
  • sc: single crochet
  • sc2tog: single crochet two together (decrease)
  • rnd: round

Instructions:

Body:

  1. Start with a magic circle. Ch 1 and make 6 sc into the ring. Pull tight. (6 sc)
  2. Rnd 2: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
  3. Rnd 3: [1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] repeat around. (18 sc)
  4. Rnd 4: [1 sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc] repeat around. (24 sc)
  5. Rnds 5-10: sc in each sc around. (24 sc)
  6. Rnd 11: [1 sc in next 2 sc, sc2tog] repeat around. (18 sc)
  7. Rnd 12: [1 sc in next sc, sc2tog] repeat around. (12 sc)
  8. Rnd 13: sc2tog six times. (6 sc)
  9. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Stuff the body lightly.

Tail:

  1. Ch 6, join with a sl st to form a ring.
  2. Rnds 1-3: sc in each chain around. (6 sc)
  3. Rnd 4: 2 sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
  4. Rnds 5-8: sc in each sc around. (12 sc)
  5. Fasten off and leave a long tail for sewing. Stuff lightly.
  6. Sew the tail to the larger end of the body.

Legs (Make 4):

  1. Ch 3, join with a sl st to form a ring.
  2. Rnd 1: 6 sc in ring. (6 sc)
  3. Rnd 2: [1 sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc] repeat around. (9 sc)
  4. Rnd 3: sc in each sc around. (9 sc)
  5. Fasten off and lightly stuff. Sew to the body, two on each side.

Spikes (Make 4):

  1. Ch 3, turn.
  2. Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next ch, turn. (2 sc)
  3. Row 2: sc2tog, turn. (1 sc)
  4. Fasten off leaving a long tail. Sew to top of the back, spaced evenly.

Assembly:

  1. Attach the safety eyes between rounds 4 and 5 of the head section.
  2. Sew the head closed, shaping it slightly as you go.
  3. Attach all spikes on top of the body, starting just behind the head.
  4. Weave in all ends securely.

Your dinosaur plush is now complete and ready to roar into someone's heart!
